 I have a thing for wood rooms, I know most folks think "70's yuck" if someone was to even suggest such a thing. But if done right it can be a beautiful design element and  make a room feel cozy and warm or even airy with a simple sophistication or all of the above. Depending on the wood choice it can even be cheaper and an easier material choice to work with, versus putting up sheetrock and then mudding and then sanding everything down several times and then having to cleanup all that nasty dust (yeah been there done that). Or sometimes you inherited those wood paneled walls when you bought your home, in that case you may want to think about painting it rather than spending a whole lotta' money ripping it out. Also picking the right furniture and art can help make the room work around the wood-a-licious look.  Maybe these pics will help inspire you to love them too. But this does beg me to ask, would you ever slap some wood up on your walls or better yet the whole room? You bet I would!

ShelterBox was one of the first organizations asked by Japan to help. Each large, green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

Another way you can help is by purchasing one of the prints below, where all of the proceeds go to the tsunami/earthquake victims.

Here in the NW Urban farming has become all the rage, although I must say I hope it's not just a temporary trend. Being able to feed your family with wholesome organic food that you grow or raise right in your own back yard is something worth keeping around long term. I must admit we have not been able to get our little urban farm a runnin' but this summer we hope to get it up, chicken coop and all.  We'll be designing and building our own coop because that's how we roll(along with our pocket book) however the coop will not roll but it will look something like the coop by Make design studio minus the wheels. Seattle Tilth sometimes has a coop building class available if designing your own seems a little daunting. But if your not so handy with the tool belt you can always start your own small farm right away with one of these ready to go coops shown above or another great resource to find a local coop builder is on craigslist!Oh and I must dress the part of Urban farm mama with these sweet threads.....

I may even go in this weekend to pick me up a lovely Uzi feathers kimono top because I simply must have something to wear to my sons PowWow party next month, I mean I can't go naked for heavens sake!

I completely have a mad crush on this local shop! I haven't actually stepped foot in it yet but that's only because I'm afraid they'll end up kicking me out for drooling all over their pretty clothes. I just love how simple and cozy everything looks but with a city girl edginess to them. Oh ever so sadly I must admit that I can not afford many of these lovelies but I do believe with a little effort I can manage to rock a similar less amazing version of it. PS I haven't even posted everything I love yet so this will have to be a two part post ; )
